Working toward climate solutions is core to Duke’s mission. Through education, research, external engagement and campus operations, the Duke Climate Commitment is our newest university-wide initiative to imagine and implement a sustainable future for all.

• We are pioneering scientific breakthroughs and partnerships in our own backyard that have global impacts. Our faculty are leading the way with team-based breakthroughs for warming waters, eroding coastlines, pollution, the climate diseases of our time—and more.
• We are focusing on experiential, applied and immersive opportunities that will prepare students to be climate changemakers. We believe every job can be a climate job.
• We are convening leaders across our campus, community and the world to create better policies for systemic change, and our seat at the table is influencing the highest levels of government and industry.
• We are walking the walk in our sustainability efforts on campus. In 2024, we achieved carbon neutrality and continue to use our campus as an applied learning environment to reduce energy use, improve waste management and food sourcing and create a more sustainable transportation fleet.
